Legends and
Heroes Hit Central Florida for the AHRMA
Gatorback Vintage National
By Lindsey Owens
March 12,
2012 – San Diego, CA: History was being made
as the Legends & Heroes Tour took a special trip
to the annual AHRMA Vintage National at
Florida’s famous Gatorback Park. Our outdoor
display was enjoyed by all of the vintage
motocross racers and spectators that were there
for the event.
Competitors from all over the east coast came
down for some exciting competition on their
vintage iron. Hundreds of AHRMA members from the
American Historic Motorcycle Association
gathered to compete in the Vintage Cross
Country, Vintage MX, Post Vintage MX, and
Vintage trials at the home of the Gatorback
Winter Olympics. History was on display at the
Legends and Heroes Moto display; from Gary
Baileys original 1969 Greeves(that won the
Firecracker 500 at Saddleback Park) making him
the first American to beat the Europeans in the
250 class. There was also Barry Higgins original
museum quality 1969 366 Factory CZ. This bike
was part of the original Trans-Am days at
Americas oldest MX track, Unadilla. The Gary
Jones 40th anniversary replica 250 Yamaha that
he competed on for his first national
championship and the 1979 KX 250 Jimmy Weinert
replica bike that the Jammer used to win one of
the 3 national championships were present and
was one of the “fans favorites.”
Racing was fast, competitive and real fun! The
presence of JT Racing gear was seen all over the
place and appeared to be the favorite race gear
of the growing vintage community!
This event at Gatorback was very exciting!
Legends and Heroes Tour will be back with
Supercross for round 11 of the series. The
display will travel up to Indianapolis, Indiana
towards the end of this week.
